The buses, a 63-seat coach owned by Cozza Transport and a 22-seat coach belonging to Benoni Transport, are expected to pay a fine of US$1000 (about K530,000.00).

National police Public Relations Officer, Rhoda Manjolo told Nyasa Times the two buses, enroute to Mzimba district, had passengers on board.

”They were detained at Bua Roadblock because, according to regional agreement, buses from outside the country are supposed to be destined for Blantyre and Lilongwe and not to go to other routes,” explained Manjolo.

Manjolo said by deciding to go beyond the prescribed routes, the buses contravened the Road Service Permit, hence the fine.

”That definately meant that they illegally carried those passengers. The detention occured on Saturday night at around 23:45pm and 00:20am”.

The passengers, according to Manjolo, were told to find other means of transport to Mzimba.
